Tonight we’re off again! This time we’re taking the overnight bus to Rio, where I will be visiting a friend of mine whom I haven’t seen in ten years.
Going to Rio for just two days seems crazy, especially because it’s not really two days, it’s like a day and a half. But it’s a good place to go when you want to leave Campinas, which we do, and both of us are craving the beach. What’s best about the beach in Rio is that you can survive for days off the food that people bring around, so even though it sounds all luxurious and expensive–Ooh! Jetting off to Rio for the weekend!!–it’s actually rather affordable.
That is, of course, if the weather is beach worthy. The past couple of times I’ve been up there, or even over to the coast, it’s been rainy and overcast. A few weeks ago in Rio, it wasn’t nice until Sunday and we had to leave on Sunday mid-day. When I went to Santos, to Ilha do Cardoso, do Pouso da Cajaiba, all those places along the coast, the weather was overcast and rainy. So I’m a little wary of making the trip to Rio if it means we’re going to be in a hotel or hostel the whole time.
But in any case, we are getting the hell out of Dodge tonight and so that means you’ll get to see some more photos and hear stories of the trajillionth 10-year reunion I’ve had this year. 2007 has been a doozy for reunions.
